“Empress Ki” – Recap Week 6 (Episode 11 - 12) by Couch-Kimchi:

Tana Shiri dragged Ki into her plot but I fully believe our Ki is one smart woman. The problem is Ki-Se – he’s not about to let go of Ki easily and he knows much more about her than anyone. I don’t necessarily think Ki-Se is smarter than Ki but he’s much more willing to cross into evil territory to get what he wants, even if it means people die. He doesn’t care, he just wants to win.
Tana Shiri gives Ki the brown powder, Ki immediately asks if it’s poison? No, it’s something that will only harm the baby. She tells Ki if she does this, she will prepare the papers for Ki to live outside the Palace but any mistakes, Ki will die. Ki says to herself that Tana Shiri is just as evil as Ki-Se is. She doesn’t see room leader Yeon-hwa watching her

Basketball: Episode 15 RECAP by Drama Beans

After San scores Korea’s first one-handed basket, Chi-ho congratulates him. San replies that it wouldn’t have been possible without his help, to which Chi-ho smiles and says, “Thanks to you, I was reminded why I play basketball. My calling as a basketball player… I’ll never forget it again.”

They decide to work together as a team, and we only hear of their win when Daddy Choi does, through the radio. This news, like all other news ever, makes him angry.

Bookie Gong celebrates with his team now that they’ll be competing in the semifinals, and tells everyone that he had a dream about vomiting—so by that logic, he’s vomited out all the bad and that means there’s only good ahead

Prime Minister and I: Episode 1 RECAP by Drama Beans

We open at a banquet hall where preparations are underway, leading up to the arrival of our hero, Prime Minister KWON YUL (Lee Beom-soo) and his wife, NAM DA-JUNG (Yoon-ah), who greet the roomful of dignitaries with a smile.

But there’s a different story that lies beneath those adoring smiles as the power couple turns to each other… and exchange looks of distaste.

An imagined Matrix style fight scene points to a more tense and hostile relationship between them. And while the world may regard her husband as a respected public figure, our heroine doesn’t share in that opinion because, well, they’re in a contract marriage

“Empress Ki” – Recap Week 5 (Episode 9-10) by Couch-Kimchi:

Ah, the holidays – it’s when family descends on your home and interrupts your drama viewing. (LOL) Not that I don’t love my family and turkey but how to explain how important it is to watch this weeks episodes of Empress Ki? I described the plot and our baby Emperor finally seeing Ki so they would allow me some time alone with my computer. At least until the pie is ready. Must have pie. *hee*

As Ta Hwan makes his way to the concubine quarters, he runs into Ki and orders her to look at him. He stares into her face and mutters that she looks really similar. *facepalm* Dowager Empress shows up to try forcing him to visit Lady Park. He’s not interested in her dancing and gets angry with Dowager Empress. He storms out, passing by Ki and glancing at her again

Empress Ki: Episode 1 - 2 recap by daebakdramas

Empress Ki/Hwatu/기황후 started last week after MBC’s previous sageuk drama (and sadly snooze-fest) “Goddess of Fire Jung Yi”. I consider this a one-off recap for now since Empress Ki will be 50 episodes long and I don’t know if I can hold out that long… Sageuks in general tend to lose me after the first 16 episodes

“Secret” – Week 6 Recap

“Secret” – Week 6 Recap by Couch-Kimchi:

Another tense week! This writer may be a rookie but she definitely knows what she’s doing. I learned the writer for the synopsis is Choi Ho Chul and the main script writer is Yoo Bo Ra. (thanks so much, @cynkdf!) The dialogue is refreshingly clear and sensible, which is amazing. I love each episode more than the previous, which is rare for me in K-drama watching.

Min Hyuk goes searching for Yoo Jung at the bakery. He runs inside, calling “Substitute” and then calls out her full name. He hears a noise. He opens a bedroom door to see her sitting on the floor, banging her head repeatedly against the wall. He puts his hand between her head and the wall but she sobs harder. He pulls her into his arms and just holds her while she cries out

“Secret” – Week 4 Recap

“Secret” – Week 4 Recap by Couch-Kimchi:

This drama just keeps getting better and better, the writing, the acting, the music – just everything! Each week, I wait for and kind of expect some drama cliché to work itself into the script and each week, I’m delighted that the writer has managed to avoid cliché stuff. I am literally on the edge of my seat with every episode. This drama is excellent, I highly recommend!
This week begins with Yoo Jung in the hospital and Min Hyuk sitting beside her bed, wiping the sweat from her face and telling her to wake up. It seems she was over-fatigued and not eating properly. When her eyes flutter open, he quickly shifts the tissue so she won’t see him. She falls back asleep and he leaves. In the car, he says to himself that he doesn’t want to see a woman die because of him and cutely snaps at his assistant, Gwang Soo (Choi Woong) that he doesn’t want a reply from him

“Medical Top Team” Episode 1 Recap

“Medical Top Team” Episode 1 Recap by Couch-Kimchi:

I haven’t seen much posted about MBC’s Wed/Thurs drama “Medical Top Team” (which is up against “Secret” and “Heirs”) so I decided to check it out for myself. I was excited Joo Ji Hoon is back in dramaland but I hate his hair in this one. Whoever the stylist is for Ji Hoon (and Woo Bin in “Heirs”) that believes helmet-hair is a good look should be immediately fired – both guys look horrible. But that’s totally off topic and my own personal opinion. Medical Top Team turned out to be intriguing enough that I find myself looking forward to the next episodes.

It opens on a swanky party given by hospital board members to introduce the new Assistant Director: Shin Hye Soo (Kim Young-Ae) and to outline her idea of putting together a “Top Medical Team” of doctors within Kwanghye University Hospital

“Secret” Episode 1 Recap by Couch-Kimchi:

A new KBS2 drama that started last week (Wednesday/Thursday) called “Secret” and starring Ji Sung, Hwang Jung Eum, and Bae Soo Bin has taken me by surprise. Surprise that I’m watching yet another “revenge” drama and surprise at exactly how dark this one is going. It’s really good so far!
Ji Sung plays Min Hyuk, a spoiled Chaebol son who refuses to marry the woman his father is demanding he marry. He’s in love with a poor woman who will never be accepted and he knows it. I confess the moments with this woman are lovely and it is sad that no matter what he does, it would never work. Unless he was willing to stop all contact with his family (which includes giving up a LOT of money) and move away – but we all know obedient sons in K-dramas usually won’t do that

Running Man’s Gary Says Song Ji Hyo’s Crime Was Stealing His Heart

By in News posted Oct December 9th, 2013 No comments

Song Ji Hyo was recently “imprisoned” for being pretty on the latest episode of “Running Man” on December 8. The episode hosted actors Gong Yoo and Park Hee Soon, who are starring in the new movie “The Suspect,” and featured a “life or death” race.

During the race, Song Ji Hyo was charged and held for “good looks,” at which the actress put on a coy expression, unable to hide her pleasure.

While the other members of the “Running Man” cast heavily protested this charge, Song Ji Hyo’s significant other on the show, Gary, admitted that it is indeed a crime, “because she stole his heart.”

Netizens who heard about this “crime” wholeheartedly agreed with Gary, saying that it is a crime, that she stole their hearts, too, etc

Comedian Yang Sang Guk Reveals that He Feared He Suffered from Depression

By in News posted Oct December 8th, 2013 No comments

Comedian Yang Sang Guk recently made a personal revelation that he suffered from depression.

The confession aired on the December 7 episode of KBS2‘s thought provoking variety show “Human Condition.”

During this episode, Yang Sang Guk underwent medical tests to measure his stress levels. The results showed that his stress levels were pretty low, and that his condition couldn’t be classified as a disease. After receiving the results, the surprised comedian said, “Even 6 months ago, I was worried that I might be depressed. Work was not enjoyable and I disliked everything.”

The psychiatrist then advised the comedian, “You have to have positive thoughts about yourself. If you keep focusing on why you are depressed, it will become more difficult

Answer Me 1994: Episode 14 Recap

Answer Me 1994: Episode 14 by Drama Beans: “The people who changed me, Part 1″

2013. The houseguests start getting hungry, and the boys prod Binggeure to pay for some food (I’m taking that as a good sign that he’s successful). He pretends not to know what they’re talking about, so they call out Chilbongie next, who defers to Garbage because he’s eldest. Heh.

So Garbage gets up to get his wallet (interesting), and then Na-jung hands the folder of takeout menus to Chilbongie, who calls to make the order (iiiinnnnnteresting). Garbage tells him to add some soju to the order, only to have Na-jung scream at him for drinking too much.

Back in the summer of 1995, we rewind to Oppa swooping in for The Kiss. Pssh, as if we didn’t all re-watch that a thousand times last week

Mi Rae’s Choice: Episode 16 Recap We’ve travelled all the way with our characters to the end of the line, but whether the journey is ultimately rewarding or even satisfying for characters and viewers alike… is up in the air.The final episode brings us back full circle as we once again consider the role of human choice in fate’s dictates. The running theme of “hope” also continues to drive Mi Rae’s motivations in her fight for her career and her dreams, but I find myself left with more questions and loose ends than answers, coupled with the unsettling feeling that hope is more often empty than it is fulfilled. EPISODE 16 (FINAL) RECAPEveryone waits with baited breath as Shin pauses for a seeming eternity over his prompts: Will he defy his superiors by reporting on the deadly humidifier sterilizing agent or will he remain quiet and choose self-preservation?Gathering himself, Shin finally begins to report… and it is not on the humidifier story, but on a more mundane matter

‘Heirs’ reaches a peak while ‘Pretty Man’ stoops to a new low in viewer ratings

By in News posted Oct December 6th, 2013 No comments
"Heirs" sits comfortably past the 20% viewer rating mark once again as it broke its own record in viewer ratings!

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the December 5th episode of SBS" "Heirs" achieved a 23.9% viewer rating which is a 2.5% increase from the previous day"s rating of 21.4%, breaking its own record.

MBC"s "Medical Top Team" has been struggling in the ratings department but managed to maintain its 2nd place spot with a 5.8% viewer rating which is a 0.4% increase from its previous rating of 5.4%. Although numbers like these would usually put a show dead last, the show managed to stay second thanks to the extremely poor ratings of KBS 2TV"s "Pretty Man", which dropped 0.5% from a 4.3% viewer rating to a new low of 3.8%.

EPISODE 15 RECAP

Ajumma is seen running on the street calling someone with the narration in the background that coming to the past changes nothing for her in the future. Kim Shin signs his name on the contract and is ready to start working for NTN the next day. NOOOO!

Meanwhile Mi Rae finds out Se Joo was the person who saved her from the ocean. She wonders why he has never told her and that’s because he doesn’t want her to see him as someone who saves her but a normal man who approaches her. He holds up a ring that he has been carrying around for awhile waiting for the right time to give it to her. Se Joo asks Mi Rae sincerely: “Will you accept my heart?”

He puts the ring on the 4th finger of her left hand and while I rage, she actually looks touched

‘Heirs’ Go Up; ‘Pretty Boy’ Goes Down

By in News posted Oct December 6th, 2013 No comments

Despite having a group of very pretty boys in both dramas, we’re seeing completely opposite results.

On Thursday night, SBS’ The Heirs claimed its highest ratings to date with 23.9 percent as Kim Tan and Cha Eun Sang realized they cannot live without each other.

On the flipside, KBS’ Pretty Boy experienced its lowest point ever, dropping to 3.8 percent.

With The Heirs only having two more episodes to go, maybe things will get better for Pretty Boy, unless The Heirs’ successor, Man from the Stars, which stars Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun, decides to continue the success.

Kdrama “Mi-rae’s Choice” Episode 15 Recap

Mi-rae’s Choice: Episode 15 RECAP by Drama Beans

Se-joo belatedly reveals himself to be Mi-rae’s savior, explaining that he simply wanted to approach her as a man, nothing more. With that, he asks her to accept his feelings. At her silence, he slips the ring on to her finger and hugs her.

Having signed the contract, Shin shows up to work at NTN the next day. He overhears a few employees arguing, but the pretty VP tells him not to worry about it and leads him into his swanky new office.

Se-joo hits yet another roadblock in his plans, so he seeks Grandma’s help with acquiring investments. She notices the ring on his finger (couple rings, perhaps?) and agrees to help, on the grounds that he marries the girl of her choice

Kdrama Recap: The Heirs Episode 17 Recap by joonni Episode 17 Tan ends up back at the empty apartment, the last place he saw Eun Sang, smiling back at him. He remembers what Dad said to him after the meeting- “Don’t forget this day. You lost that child today as the consequence of the sword you wielded.” Tears start to fall silently out of Tan’s eyes first, but as the sobs rise in his chest, Tan pants for breath and he falls on his knees. He clutches his chest as he cries. Tan walks the streets calling Eun Sang, but the operator is saying the phone number doesn’t exist. Tan weeps, going numb from the pain as he remembers Eun Sang saying bye to him with a smile at the apartment. Tan arrives home and goes to his dad. He tells him that Eun Sang is gone; he can’t find her
