Super Junior’s Kim Heechul Gives His Opinion on “Running Man” through “Ssulzun”

By in News posted Oct December 28th, 2013 No comments

On the episode of JTBC’s talk program “Ssulzun” that aired on December 26, the hosts analyzed Sunday variety programs currently on air, comparing SBS’ “Running Man,” KBS’ “1N2D” and MBC’s “Real Men.”

Ratings for the last week of November saw “Real Men” in first place with 17.5% ratings, followed by “Running Man” with 14.4% and “1N2D” trailing with 8%. This changed when Season 3 of “1N2D” started, with ratings shooting up and the show catapulting back into first place. Since then, ratings for “Real Men” and “1N2D” have fluctuated, while ratings for “Running Man” have stayed relatively stable, never straying below the 12% mark.

This led MC Kim Gura to comment that the reason for the show’s steady ratings was the fervent support of its teenage fanbase

The 10 K-Drama Second Leads That Stole Our Hearts in 2013

By in News posted Oct December 25th, 2013 No comments

It’s one of the most painful things that can happen when watching a K-drama: falling for the second male lead. Doomed from the start, our love for that frequently more patient, quiet, and nicer guy than the lead only causes heartache and bitter complaints; why doesn’t she choose this guy instead?! At the end, many K-drama fans can only soothe their broken hearts with this offer: “It’s okay. If she doesn’t take you, I will!”

Here is a list of 10 second leads that may have stolen your heart this year. Your blood pressure may rise again as you relive the angst of not seeing them end up with their hearts’ desires, but keep cool- there has to be a fanfic out there to live out that fantasy for you.

Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2013 – December Week 3

By in News posted Oct December 22nd, 2013 No comments

For the first time in eight weeks, a song repeats as No. 1 on our chart. Hyorin’s “One Way Love” remains on top this week to claim the last No. 1 spot of this year. She edged out EXO’s new Christmas song “Miracles In December” by 17 points. The two songs were about even on all our sources, with each winning two music shows. The main difference was on KBS Music Bank where “One Way Love” was No. 1 and “Miracles In December” was No. 9. That gap enables Hyorin to continue to top our chart and becomes the first two week champion since IU’s “The Red Shoes” on November Week 1. Congratulations.

There are four new songs on the top 10 this week, leading by the brand new entry of “Miracles In December” at No. 2 as mentioned. EXO is enjoying a huge breakthrough year on their sophomore campaign, having a mega hit “Growl

He will be taking part in a parody of SBS 2013 hit drama “Master’s Sun” and “The Heirs,” playing the part of Joo Joong Won from “Master’s Sun.” Appearing along with him are A Pink’s Son Na Eun and her “We Got Married” co-star SHINee’s Taemin and Girl’s Day’s Minah. They will be spreading a special message via a music drama parody that features cameos from top idol groups, SHINee, 2PM, Girl’s Day, A Pink and EXO.

Lee Sung Jae, Kim Min Gyo, Kee Sang Yeob, and Jo Woo Jong Are the Real “Uhm-chin-ahs” in K-Entertainment

By in News posted Oct December 18th, 2013 No comments

An “uhm-chin-ah” refers to a “Mother’s Friend’s Son,” someone whom mothers like to mention in front of their children (e.g. Lee Seung Gi and Roy Kim).

Find out who the “real uhm-chin-ahs” are below! It seems like these figures were chosen mainly for their prestigious family backgrounds.

Lee Sung Jae revealed at a recording for SBS “Healing Camp” recently, “My father was the president of a large company, S Construction, and my elder brother is an army colonel.” Lee Sung Jae’s father worked for the construction arm of Samsung, and helped to construct the National Assembly Building at Yeouido in Seoul.

Appearing on tvN variety program “SNL Korea” as part of its fixed crew, Kim Min Gyo, is another uhm-chin-ah candidate. He revealed on the December 13 radio broadcast of SBS’s Power FM “Cultwo Show” that his father is the director of a hospital, and that he attended Hyundai Senior High School in the prestigious Gangnam School District 8

Answer Me 1994: Episode 17 recap by Drama Beans: “Love, Fear Part 2: Answer Me 1997″

In 2013, Haitai wonders where Binggeure went, to which Yoon-jin asks, “Can’t you guess?” Haitai can but we can’t, since we’re being kept in the dark. Thanks for that, drama.

Back to May of 1997, where post-bus-accident Garbage now has his arm in a sling and his neck in a brace. That’s what you get for messing with fangirls, dude. He assures Na-jung over the phone that he’s totally fine, and his friend Min-jung raises an eyebrow at the obvious lie. He makes sure that Na-jung is coming down tomorrow for her birthday, and it’s sweet how much he clearly wants to see her, busy schedule and practicality be damned

Answer Me 1994 Episode 17 Recap by Dramabeans:

Big things are in store for many of our characters, and a few mysteries are answered for us (though not, of course, the main one. Goodness knows we couldn’t have that). It’s a rewarding hour for those of us who’ve been waiting for concrete movement on multiple fronts, and the payoff is both sweet and a little melancholy, which is pretty much what this series does best.

Answer Me 1994 Recap – Episode 15 “The people who changed me, Part 2″

Answer Me 1994 Recap - Episode 15 by Dramabeans:

With all the husband hullaballoo, sometimes the secondary characters feel a bit too secondary, but then they’ll step to the fore with something really sweet. It’s easy to get caught up in the Oppa-Chilbongie wars (omg you guys are killing me with them), but this drama has a lot more to offer than fanwars and shipping, which is actually why I think it’s doing itself a disservice to be so coy with the “Who is he?” gimmick. Because when the show is all about the small, revealing character moments, it’s totally got my heart.

EPISODE 15: “The people who changed me, Part 2″

It’s January 1996, and Na-jung is caught in a fierce tug-of-war with Garbage in the front yard… because she’s trying to sneak him into her room at night and he’s resisting

Answer Me 1994 Episode 14 Recap by Dramabeans:

It’s the height of happiness and the depths of heartache, as one suitor takes a step closer, which invariably means the other gets left behind. The fallout turns out to be harder for my heart to handle than expected, especially when impending separation turns a simple goodbye into one that might be forever. Say it ain’t so!

EPISODE 14: “The people who changed me, Part 1″

2013. The houseguests start getting hungry, and the boys prod Binggeure to pay for some food (I’m taking that as a good sign that he’s successful). He pretends not to know what they’re talking about, so they call out Chilbongie next, who defers to Garbage because he’s eldest

When dramas go crazy: Aurora Princess, a case study

By in News posted Oct December 16th, 2013 No comments

We’ve been following the ever-evolving story of Aurora Princess with raised eyebrows for months, as it has become a fixture in the headlines for its parade of shenanigans. And while it’s not the type of drama we’d typically be devoting a lot of attention to, it’s worth looking at if only as the cautionary tale of what not to do when making a show. If ever there were a case of a drama having more drama behind the cameras than in front of them, this would be it.

Aurora Princess is a long-running daily series on MBC and therefore went under our radars at first, but the constant reports of its outrageous behind-the-scenes antics grew too crazy to ignore; it’s the kind of stuff girlfriday and I would send each other with comments like “Omg, can you believe this?” and “What the heck are they smoking over there?” Just when you thought they’d reached some kind of quota on how much lunacy to pile into one production, the drama one-upped itself with fresh insanity

Kim Woo Bin’s Value Doubles, Rising as One of the Hottest Stars in TV, CF, Film

It is very clear that model-turned-actor Kim Woo Bin is no doubt, one of the hottest stars on the market these days.

When he appeared in SBS’ “Gentleman’s Dignity” and KBS’ “School 2013,” he was not as noticed. However, after his stellar performances on SBS’ “The Heirs” and the film “Friend 2,” Kim Woo Bin proved to be a hit-maker and has solidified his position as a top actor.

Even among strong acting seniors such as Yoo Oh Sung and Lee Min Ho, Kim Woo Bin’s charisma still left a deep impression on viewers. His unique face and modelesque body-line aren’t the only factors to his popularity but his acting skills as well. Recently, actresses Jeon Do Hyun and Ha Ji Won picked Kim Woo Bin as the actor they will be keeping an eye on in the future

It’s January 1996, and Na-jung is caught in a fierce tug-of-war with Garbage in the front yard… because she’s trying to sneak him into her room at night and he’s resisting. HA. She whines that he can just stay for ten minutes and nobody will be the wiser, except then Dad comes out and sees the scene. Na-jung and Garbage break apart and try not to look guilty, which of course makes them look incredibly guilty.

Dad asks suspiciously, “Are you two… maybe…?” They gulp hard, and then Dad finishes, “still fighting like mad dogs?” He barks at them to stop acting like kids while they sag in visible relief. Thank god for Dad’s dimness
