Kdrama “Empress Ki” Episode 3 and 4 Recap

This drama has turned out to be a welcome surprise. I’m not sure what I expected – violence, political maneuvering, and boring scenes with old men talking. I laughed through most of both episodes this week, I certainly wasn’t expecting this much humor. I’m already extremely attached to all 3 lead characters which probably won’t be good when it’s time to pick a ship.
Wang Yoo has figured out evil Wang Go’s plan. He’s hoping the Yuan Prince is killed in Goryeo which would result in war – with the blame being placed squarely on Wang Yoo. Goryeo would be destroyed, Wang Yoo tossed out on his ear and Wang Go would become King. Wang Yoo rides out to meet Ta Hwan to offer protection, which would keep Goryeo protected as well.

We pick up with last week’s hide-and-seek game against idol group EXO. With less than 20 seconds left before the switch, Jae-suk corners two idol boys in the elevator… then swiftly eliminates them both, tieing the game to 5:5.

As EXO prepares to hunt down the cast, Kwang-soo… pretends to be a mannequin? Haha. Is this the idea that nobody will notice if you hide in plain sight?

Nine: Consequences, resolutions, and the ending

If you’re here, I’m going to assume you’ve seen the show, so let’s dive right in.

A major theme of the drama is the role of god/time/fate, whatever that force is that refuses to let Sun-woo change things to his will, even if presumably that very god/time/fate has permitted a world wherein time-traveling incense sticks exist in the first place. Quibbles. (But honestly, talk about entrapment.)

This force is not treated as a religious or paranormal power, and in fact it’s not an overt character in the drama. The characters speak of a god, but the drama doesn’t explicitly show some external force acting upon the world; it’s more of an interpretation than a hard-and-fast explanation. So while we (and the characters) infer that some generic higher power is displeased at the disruption, the issue is more about retaining a cosmic balance rather than a direct punishment-reward dichotomy.

Aw. I’m really going to miss Lee Min Ho on my TV screen very soon. (T_T) These new set of released stills are really pretty and cute for collection.

Us crazies have waited for him on TV for over a year since Faith and now it is almost over. Looking at these pics warm my heart because eek… I’d love to be hugged and enveloped by him like that & feel his warmth transmitted to my body (only if it’s cold or else it can be annoying, hahaha). Have his arms wrapped around mine… aigoooo. I feel so sad now. LOL!

“Secret” – Thoughts on Week 3 Recap by Couch-KimChi:

Whoa, this drama has completely taken over my life. I’ve watched each episode several times and find myself thinking about certain scenes over and over. It’s fascinating – some actions by the characters can be construed many different ways so things are left open to interpretation. Did the writer intend for that to happen? If so, he’s brilliant! (I did read this screenplay won an award or something)
And the actors are all brilliant, playing characters ambiguously and leaving the audience with tiny clues to decide just who these people are. Or leaving the audience with NO clues and it’s up to us to decide what the expressions on their faces mean. Is this character evil? Or is he protecting a loved one? I wasn’t intending to recap this drama but I can’t shut my brain down. (LOL) So let’s discuss what happened this past week and you can let me know what you think.

“Empress Ki” – Recap Week 4 (Episode 7 – 8) by Couch-Kimchi:

I’m continually amazed at the story progression and the pace of this drama – things move quickly. That suits me just fine – I hate repetition, flashbacks upon flashbacks, long silent staring and no character development. Having said that, I don’t expect much just yet – it’s still very early.
In episode 7, our creepy brother Ki-Se “smells” that Ki is a woman and rips open her shirtt. He orders her dressed and brought to his tent, while Byung-Soo stares at Ki like he can’t believe it. Two of the Goryeo slaves are brought in to dress her up and apply make-up. She’s brought to Ki-Se’s quarters and he’s momentarily speechless at her beauty. She’s forced to her knees, her hands tied.
