The first set of stills for the upcoming MBC drama, “Empress Ki” have been released, featuring the leading lady, Ha Ji Won.
On October 14, stills of Ha Ji Won in her Goryeo attire, displaying her horseback-riding skills, were revealed.
It is said that Ha Ji Won’s experienced horseback-riding skills impressed everyone on set. Ha Ji Won commented on her role in this drama by saying, “In the drama, Empress Ki is a very charismatic character but I also want to express Empress Ki’s warmth behind her tough exterior. I will try hard to show the best image that I can through this drama.”
MBC‘s upcoming drama “Empress Ki” is vamping up its promotions with new releases of posters and stills.
Two solo posters of Ha Ji Won and and one poster of the three leads have been revealed.
Ha Ji Won’s solo posters show her icy and elegant charisma in her colorful traditional attire. Reports say that she had a lot of trouble with her flowing robes of traditional wear but she pulled through like the professional that she is, earning her high praise from the staff.
Actress Ha Ji Won‘s photos were recently released from her latest pictorial with outdoor wear brand, North Cape that she currently endorses.
The pictorial featured items that were part of North Cape’s fall and winter collection for this year.
In the photos, Ha Ji Won endures freezing temperatures as she models clothing items in front of an icy wall. She sports various tailored items that look warm yet trendy without the additional bulk of the usual fall and winter garb. The actress is well-known for her action scenes and was able to bring her charisma into her photos as the currently reigning “Action Movie Queen”
On October 27, actress Ha Ji Won and co-star Ji Chang Wook were recently revealed in breathtaking stills for the upcoming drama “Empress Ki.”
The stills, shot during a royal ceremony scene, show the two actors in beautiful headpieces, and red and black royal dress, with majestic gold embroidery.
Shot against the backdrop of imperial China, these scenes were filmed with absolute care, down to each individual prop, and gave the feel of an authentic royal ceremony.
Vocal group 4Men has been chosen to take the lead for MBC’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Empress Ki.”
4Men’s OST for “Empress Ki,” titled “Thorn Love,” plans to be released on midnight of October 28. On the news of 4Men’s contribution to the drama’s OST, many have expressed their anticipation for the new song as the vocal group had previously sang OSTs for such hit dramas as “Secret Garden,” “Bridal Mask,” and “The Gu Family Book.”
With the exit of Goddess of Fire Jeongi, we thought SBS’ Suspicious Housekeeper and KBS’ Marry Him If You Dare would catch a break, but boy, were we wrong.
On Monday night, MBC’s Empress Ki starring Ha Ji Won, Joo Jin Mo, and Ji Chang Wook, kicked up strong, earning 11.1 percent in ratings and taking over the top spot.
With just the first episode, Empress Ki was able to steal the attention from its competitors with realistic action, affection romance, and hilarious scenes.
MBC’s newly minted Monday-Tuesday drama “Empress Ki” is off to a good start.
The premiere episode of “Empress Ki” recorded 11.1% ratings, according to Nielsen Korea. This was 1.8% higher than its SBS competition, “Suspicious Housekeeper,” which gathered 9.3%. KBS’ “Future Choice” placed third with 6.5% in ratings.
The first episode of “Empress Ki” drew surprise and praise for its mix of action, romance, and comedy, as well as skipping over the childhood backstory that is often expected from a 50-episode sageuk. It delved straight into the tumultuous life of its main characters, kicking the drama off with high energy.
Every Monday and Tuesday is a roller coaster ride for KBS’ Marry Him If You Dare as ratings continue to rise and then fall.
Marry Him If You Dare recorded a 6.5 percent, close to a 1 percent fall from 7.4 in the previous episode. With such a predictable story, it seems that viewers are growing a bit impatient as the plot is slowly rolling out.
Will Marry Him If You Dare go uphill in the next episode, or continue trailing down?
And MBC’s Empress Ki does it again.
Not only did the drama come out as the top rated drama on Tuesday night, but Empress Ki recorded a 14.5 percent in rating, its highest thus far.
The kicker is that it’s only on its fourth episode.
The drama has been praised for its exceptional acting, realistic action scenes, and the fast-paced but detailed storyline. Now that romance is kicking in, the numbers are expected to rise gradually.
This drama has turned out to be a welcome surprise. I’m not sure what I expected – violence, political maneuvering, and boring scenes with old men talking. I laughed through most of both episodes this week, I certainly wasn’t expecting this much humor. I’m already extremely attached to all 3 lead characters which probably won’t be good when it’s time to pick a ship.
Wang Yoo has figured out evil Wang Go’s plan. He’s hoping the Yuan Prince is killed in Goryeo which would result in war – with the blame being placed squarely on Wang Yoo. Goryeo would be destroyed, Wang Yoo tossed out on his ear and Wang Go would become King. Wang Yoo rides out to meet Ta Hwan to offer protection, which would keep Goryeo protected as well.
The episode four of MBC’s “Empress Ki” included a beautiful scenic view of Dae Chang Do beach in which Seung Nyang (Ha Ji Won) and Ta Hwan (Ji Chang Wook) were involved in a horseback riding competition.
The November 5 episode of the drama conveyed a serious and heart wrenching scene as dangers crept between the two characters. Furthermore, the fact that their relationship alluded to a deeper meaning besides friendship foreshadowed the brewing story line.
Not much has happened since the last time Monday/Tuesday dramas were recorded.
MBC’s Empress Ki continues to lead. There was no gain or decrease.
SBS’ Suspicious Housekeeper fell exactly one percent from its previous ratings.
The sad story for Monday’s ratings is that KBS’ Marry Him If You Dare continues its roller coaster ride of up and down. For Monday, Marry Him If You Dare managed to climb a little slope of 0.5 percent, coming out to 5.9 compared to last episode’s 5.4 percent.
MBC’s Monday and Tuesday airing drama “Empress Ki” has topped viewership ratings!
According to ratings research company Nielsen Korea, the latest episode of “Empress Ki” that aired on November 11 achieved 14.5% viewership ratings. The episode achieved similarly high ratings last week, placing it as the front runner for most watched dramas that air on Mondays and Tuesdays.
On this particular episode of “Empress Ki,” Ki Seung Nyang (played by actress Ha Ji Won) rescues the injured crown prince, Ta Hwan (played by actor Ji Chang Wook), and they escape from assassins together.
Nothing can stop MBC’s Empress Ki as the story continues to unfold with a stellar cast.
On Tuesday night, Empress Ki made a new record by receiving 16.3 percent in viewership ratings. The new percentage marked the drama’s highest rating since the first episode.
The drama proved to be a hit since its premiere with a talented cast, a fast-paced but detailed story and excellent directing. Only six episodes into the series, Empress Ki is expected to continue climbing up the ratings chart.
Cable network tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Basketball” will finish its run earlier than expected in December.
A tvN representative stated that “Basketball” was originally slated to have 24 episodes, but it seems that it has been cut down to 18 episodes, and will air its final episode on December 17. The production team recently decided on this change, and is reshooting the final episodes with some revisions.
However, there has been denial of an early end to the series by another party, who stated, “Basketball was initially planned for 18 episodes before independence, and 6 episodes after. However, we decided that there was too much content after independence to be squeezed into 6 episodes, so for the sake of completeness, we decided to end the drama at 18 episodes. We are waiting to see the response to decide on a second season.”
On November 19, Loen Entertainment released the MV for the “Empress Ki” OST, “Love Wind” on their Youtube channel. The emotional love ballad was composed by PJ and sung by singer Wax. The song captures the essence of Seung Nyang’s (Empress Ki) struggle for influence and her complicated love story. Wax’s ability to easily transition from a delicate voice to a powerful voice make her the perfect singer for the track.
Amid her busy schedule filming the chart topping drama “Empress Ki,” top actress Ha Ji Won is preparing for her Hollywood debut.
Ha Ji Won signed with Bevery Hills based UTA (United Talent Agency) last August. After already declining several movie offers from UTA to focus on “Empress Ki,” it seems like Ha Ji Won has found a Hollywood project she likes. She is reported to be sleeping only 3 to 4 hours a day and is constantly studying English. Ha Ji Won is already busy travelling to and from different filming locations for “Empress Ki” such as Changwon and China.
