The drama world kept our eyes glued to the screen all year round, but it’s time to decide which drama stole the show in 2013.
We’ve divided the year’s dramas into categories by timeslot – Mon/Tues, Wed/Thurs and Fri/Weekend – so be sure to check out each category and, of course, vote!
But choose wisely, because the top drama from each timeslot will advance to the final round, where the drama with the most votes from each category will compete for the title of Mwave′s Drama of the Year.
Gallup Korea interviewed 1702 people of both genders over the age of 13 between November 1 and 18. They asked interviewees to name two actors or actresses who were outstanding in 2013. Gallup Korea released the results of their survey on December 17.
2013’s top two spots were taken by married couple Lee Bo Young and Ji Sung, with 11.0% and 8.1% of votes respectively. Lee Bo Young and Ji Sung have had a great 2013, each starring in well-received dramas and finally getting married after a seven-year romance. They received support across all age groups, but were most popular amongst those in their 30s and 40s.
I totally wasn’t intending to write up the brand-new reality show Rain Effect, but I fired up the first episode out of curiosity and immediately got sucked into its fun, funny vibe. (Trust me, I wasn’t looking for another thing to recap!) It’s been a while since we’ve done a Variety Roulette; nothing like a little Rain to merit a comeback.
These kinds of reality-docu shows aren’t by any means new, but it’s not often you get one with a star as big as Rain. (And I’m sure I’m not the only one who had a brief flash to the Jeon Ji-hyun character doing one in the newly premiered drama You From Another Star.) True, he hasn’t been as big in recent years as he once was at the height of his pop-star fame (the mid-2000s were SO all about Rain), even if you factor for his two-year army-duty absence, but he’s certainly achieved enough to have solidified his place as a lasting star in the K-pop firmament.
SBS’ Wednesday-Thursday drama “Man from the Stars” sold its publication rights to China.
The drama proves to be a great success by recording a nationwide rating of 20% on December 18, and it has made the headlines again by revealing that its publication rights have been sold to a Chinese broadcaster for an all-time highest rate.
Even prior to airing the first episode, a Chinese media company showed its interest in “Man from the Stars,” and since December 18, the drama has been airing simultaneously in both Korea and China. Chinese viewers are able to watch the drama through mobile drama site PPTV, and it has been met with a highly positive response.
Age of Feeling: Episode 8 recap by drama beans
In order to help Jung-tae learn how to fight against swords, Boss Hwang takes him to the gibang to meet Ajusshi Choi. Though Jung-tae’s known him for a while, he seems unaware of Ajusshi’s past as a guard for the Korean Empire (which ended in 1910 when Japan annexed Korea).
So Ajusshi Choi takes Jung-tae under his tutelage, and despite what I thought, Jung-tae isn’t trying to learn how to use a sword, but to fight unarmed against one. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but… why wouldn’t he want to use a sword even just as a shield instead of relying on his squishy human flesh for protection?
Today is Valentine”s Day!
You know what that means. Chocolates, flowers, teddy bears… Well…. if we had a significant other, maybe. Thankfully for the rest of us who happen to be single, we can overdose on ice cream and chocolate by our lonely selves and live vicariously through drama couples. For this Valentine”s Day, we decided to look at some of the drama couples with relationships that we dreamed of having (SPOILERS BELOW)!
