Thanks for supporting us by watching “Fated to Love You” on SoompiTV!

The sound of silence is heavy and thick in the morning air, its burden a weight on your shoulders, daunting, cold, and lifeless, as you timidly walk into the room. You immediately notice the stark interior and the oddly placed “Fated to Love You” promotional poster on the wall. Panic settles in. You want nothing more than to simply turn and run away.

As if sensing your trepidation, your best friend puts a reassuring hand on your shoulder, giving you a nod of encouragement. You grimace in fear, but still manage to flash her a meek, wavering smile. With a sharp exhale of breath, you take a seat on the leather couch. Your best friend, your pillar of support, follows suit

'Sweet Secrets' Offers A New Spin On The Single Mom Drama

By in News posted Oct October 16th, 2014 No comments

A new drama, "Sweet Secrets," takes on the subject of single moms. While it"s not the first k-drama to do so, it is the third one to tackle the subject this year.

The other two recent single mom dramas are "The Greatest Marriage" and "Mama." "The Greatest Marriage," starring Park Si Yeon, Bae Soo Bin and Noh Min Woo, is about a newscaster who decides she wants a baby but not marriage. Her decision creates a scandal, as she is a national figure. "Mama," with stars Hong Jung Hyun and Song Yun Ah, told the story of a successful painter who is a happy single mom until she learns she has a terminal illness.

And "Nine Plus Boys" even touched on the subject when Oh Jung Se"s sister told him that she did not want him to marry a single mom, even though the mom in question was his former girlfriend and a divorcee

[Halftime Report] “My Lovely Girl”

Thanks for supporting us by watching “My Lovely Girl” on SoompiTV!

Now that “My Lovely Girl” has aired half of its episodes, let’s evaluate how it’s doing so far. Personally, I’m really enjoying this drama—and here are 6 reasons why:

The setting. Maybe this is helped in part by the scandals currently plaguing the K-Pop world, but I find the storylines at AnA absolutely fascinating. The relationships between managers and trainees, the negotiations with idols, the process of developing a song, the way that scandals are handled… I’m not sure how realistic anything we see onscreen is, but it feels realistic, and I find that really cool. (The presence of so many idols in the cast helps add authenticity as well!) The love triangle

[HanCinema"s Drama Review] “Mother”s Choice” Episode 2

By in News posted Oct October 14th, 2014 No comments

So-yeong has been forced into the choice that makes up the drama"s title. She can either do what"s right as a woman, and support the victim of a terrible crime, or she can do what"s right by her son, which is prevent this incident from ruining his life. So-yeong chooses to do the wrong thing, and while it takes some time for her to face actual repercussions, in the immediate sense, the way she betrays herself as a woman is palpable.

I really like Oh Hyun-kyeong"s performance here, because it"s just so understated. So-yeong spends most of this episode making a conscious decision not to show any emotion whatsoever. This is because she knows that any legitimacy on her part will betray the sheer hypocrisy required for So-yeong to give up everything for her son. Not only does So-yeong give up her feminist ideals, she forces another woman to betray her own bond as a mother

[HanCinema"s Drama Review] “Mother”s Choice” Episode 1

By in News posted Oct October 13th, 2014 No comments

This drama aims to discuss a very difficult, very politically incorrect question. How does a woman in the modern world, with all the right trappings of feminism reconcile the fact of these beliefs with increasably unshakable evidence that her son is, in fact, one of those people who would do something so horrible as to violate and terrorize a woman against her will? Let"s not pretend for the moment that correct political beliefs produce perfectly egalitarian children. It"s a nice sentiment but it defies the sheer scale at which these crimes continue to occur.

The worst about this is that there"s nothing really all that wrong about the family presented. Nobody"s perfect, after all. The best we can really do is try the best as possible. Indeed, it"s pretty clear that the teenage son has some moral scruples, just not enough to avoid getting in with the bad crowd that does awful things like drink beer and have a girlfriend over while his folks are gone

EXO fans outraged at new drama “Modern Farmer” starring Lee Hongki for naming fake-band “EXO”

By in News posted Oct October 11th, 2014 No comments

Korean netizens are in an outrage after a new SBS drama titled, “Modern Farmer”, was revealed to be using the name “EXO” for their fake-band in the drama.

A EXO-L fan left a message reading, "After Jang Bori ended, Modern Farmer will take over the slot, everyone knows, right? It’s a drama about a band, and their name is EXO, which stands for Excellent Soul. Even though it’s just a drama, how could they use a name that’s already being used? The scriptwriter obviously forced the name. If you search the name EXO, the faux-band member will appear instead. The main lead is also a senior singer so I’m worried there will be war amongst fandoms in the future. For us EXO-L, EXO is a precious team name, but it will cause confusion for people who watch the drama

[SPOILERS] Pilot episode drama review – TV Chosun “The Greatest Wedding”

By in News posted Oct October 9th, 2014 No comments

With so many new dramas coming out, sometimes it’s hard to pick which one to watch first. Koreaboo will try to help make that choice easier by bringing you reviews of the premiere episodes of new dramas so that you can make a more informed decision about your drama watching. We will comment and rate on five categories: Plot, character dynamic, genre rating, attractiveness of characters, and whether or not we think it’s worth watching for the remainder of the episodes. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

This week we bring to you a review of TV Chosun’s “The Greatest Wedding” starring Park Siyeon, Bae Soobin and No Minwoo. This drama follows the lives of four different couples and also focuses on Park Siyeon character’s (Cha Kiyoung) decision to live as a single mother.

Disclaimer: These reviews are based solely off the writers’ honest thoughts about the episode, and are in no way meant to discourage anybody from watching the drama!

The pilot episode of this drama is different from any drama we’ve seen, because of the focus on women and their independence, and we loved it! This has been one of the first dramas we’ve seen that pinpoints a lot of social stereotypes that women face everyday, thus bringing in a feminist view into a patriarchal world
