Recently, actor Lee Min Ho has risen to Hallyu star status, with explosive popularity not only in Korea and China, but all over Asia. However, Lee Min Ho’s success was not a straight candle-lit path to the top, but the result of years and years of hard work.
The actor debuted in 2006 in the EBS drama “Schoolyard Secrets,” with which he was slowly making himself known to the masses. However, after a serious car accident, Lee Min Ho had to suspend his activities for about a year, giving up following roles in “High Kick” and “9 End 2 Outs.”
When Lee Min Ho returned, he starred in “Mackerel Run,” which yielded poor results, ending early, as a result of problems with the production company and low viewer ratings
In under four months, the number of people following actor Lee Min Ho on Weibo has – wait for it – doubled.
Currently, the hot Hallyu star is followed by over 20 million fans on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Weibo. He is the first Korean actor to reach this great milestone, and considering that not even all Chinese superstars have such a huge amount of followers on Weibo, this a significant record overall.
A representative of his agency commented on March 9, “In the evening of March 8, the number of people following Lee Min Ho on Chinese Weibo passed 20 million. He is the first Korean actor to reach these digits.”
On November 24 last year, merely around 100 days before doubling the amount, he reached 10 million followers on Weibo. This means that on average, he gained 100,000 new friends every day, and lately the number has been as high as 300,000
Recently, a company that specializes in online research released the results of a survey for which male celebrity that women wanted to have a date with on March 14, which is White Day (when men give women presents such as flowers or chocolate).
A total of 2,148 women in their 20s took part in this survey to choose among 16 male actors who were particularly popular these days.
Although the competition must have been tough, Kim Soo Hyun came out on top with 30.3% of votes (650) as he gained immense popularity from "You Who Came From The Stars." Following him in second was Kim Woo Bin of "Heirs" with quite a large gap of 13.5% (289).
Third place had a three-way tie with Kim Soo Hyun"s co-star Park Hae Jin, "Emergency Couple"s Choi Jin Hyuk, and "Single Cunning Lady"s Joo Sang Wook
Dynamic Duo‘s Choiza and solo artist Lim Kim have joined their forces, or in this case voices, for an upcoming track by producer Philtre.
This will be the two talented musicians’ first time to work together. The track is said to be a modern interpretation of the 90′s sound, and the lyrics will express the feelings that one experiences at the edge of love in a detailed manner.
Recently, Soyu x Junggigo have proven the appeal of male-female duos with their catchy love song, and it will be interesting to see whether the collaboration between Choiza and Lim Kim will turn out just as successful as theirs.
Philtre’s agency Amoeba Culture commented, “This song will show you the ‘end’ of emotions and sensibility
Fans of actor Lee Min Ho all over the world will temporarily have to wait a bit more to have the chance to see him in person. According to a news agency report, Lee Min Ho would have to decline the offers for him to tour beginning April, since his film “Gangnam Blues” will start shooting. His last overseas event will be in Yokohama, Japan in March.
“We will have to postpone all the performances planned because he will need to focus on filming for the time being,” Lee Min Ho’s rep said in a statement.
Throughout 2013, Lee Min Ho held events in China, Japan and Southeast Asia, including stops in Malaysia and the Philippines, for an eight-city tour. The success was seen to continue and he received a rush of requests to visit other places elsewhere around the globe. His visit has become an event for a particular city that foreign fans book travel packages around his performances
