“Empress Ki” – Episode 23 - 24 Recap by Couch-Kimchi:
This week was equal parts heartbreak, frustration and excitement. Heartbreaking watching Ki suffer and frustrating watching the bad guys continue to win. But there is excitement that we’re moving into the revenge stage. Both ships have suffered blows however, there are signs a new ship is forming? LOL! Tessieroo: Ki has her baby, alone in a cave. (depressing much?) It’s a boy and she names him “Byul” which means Star. In Yuan, Wang Yoo is thrown from his horse.
Rinchan: That baby’s cry was strong enough to knock some sense in his dad all the way from Yuan, I sense the burgeoning of strong, unconscious family ties here.
Tessieroo: Ki hears voices, she runs but they’re not far behind
Actress Ha Ji Won proudly showed off the giant chocolate candy she received as a White Day present on Instagram. White Day is celebrated on March 14, in which females receive presents of candy from their male counterparts.
Her Instagram post on March 15 read, “I love White Day~^^ I love 1023~^^,” and was accompanied by a picture of herself. 1023 is the name of Ha Ji Won’s official fan café.
In the picture, Ha Ji Won appears to be holding an enormous chocolate candy, in the shape of a Ferrero Rocher chocolate, mounted on a stick like a scepter. She is dressed elegantly in her “Empress Ki” garb, while wearing a sunny smile on her face.
Ha Ji Won plays Ki Seung Nyang on the currently airing MBC Monday-Tuesday drama “Empress Ki

Seung-nyang continued to have nightmares and showed the new bruise she got on her neck to Taltal (Why am I getting a couple vibe from these two?!). Taltal had ordered for his men to find the shaman in the capital and told Seung-nyang about the tag for the Grim Reaper with her name on it, which would be hidden somewhere around her quarters. The maids conducted a search around her quarters and started digging the compound; however, nothing was found yet. Ta-hwan got to know about the curse after witnessing Seung-nyang having the nightmare and choking him in the process. He also thought that Tanashiri was the only person who would do such thing and he couldn’t stand still, watching her in that kind of suffering

Seung-nyang stopped right in front of Yoo for a moment of angsty and accusing stare from her side and the guards were ordered to drag her away, but Ta-hwan’s arrival at the throne hall turned out to be a surprise for all of them. Tanashiri expressed her (faked?) relief to see him up and walking, but he’s only interested in what were they doing with Lady Ki. Seung-nyang was happy to have him recovering from the poison and Ta-hwan smiled at her reassuringly. They only had eyes for each other, as if they were the only people in the hall! Still, I feel bad for Yoo, who must felt a pang of sadness upon hearing Seung-nyang’s concern directed towards Ta-hwan

As Ta-hwan was holding the unconscious Seung-nyang in his arms, Tanashiri got to know that he went to the library. She wanted to prevent Seung-nyang from leaving the place with him and went there. Seung-nyang woke up and realized that she had lost consciousness for a while. Ta-hwan tried to persuade her into getting out of the library, but she refused to do so and continued to do the copying. He wanted to know what he could do for him, but Seung-nyang made him realize that he could do nothing, even protecting her from the people against her. She told him not to do anything for her, and she would do the same for him.
Tanashiri started to shout outside, calling for Ta-hwan to leave the Inner Court matters to her and not to interfere with her business

Seung-nyang was ordered to drink the tonic but Empress Dowager dropped by, ordering her not to do so since the tonic contained infertility medicine. Tanashiri said that she did it for the sake of the Imperial family (yeah, RIGHT) and Seung-nyang suddenly took the bowl. Instead of drinking it, she poured it onto the floor. Muahahahaha…what a rebel! Seung-nyang told Tanashiri that if she took it, then she won’t be able to conceive in the future. The Dowager was satisfied with the outcome.
The other concubines were angry that they were tricked into drinking the tonic and Seung-nyang was the only one who was able to escape
I’ve been involved with this drama since the beginning and have met some truly wonderful people at the Soompi thread but I have to say, Rinchan’s posts are mature, patient and though-provoking. I (and many others) look forward to reading her posts so I asked her to co-recap Empress Ki. The Couch Kimchi ladies and I are hoping she’ll enjoy this experience so much that she’ll want to stick around and write about other dramas. *hehehe* So please welcome our first guest-writer – Rinchan! Rinchan: Thanks again for the invitation, as well as the warm welcome. Empress Ki is the first drama that I have ever decided to post my thoughts on in Soompi and the people there, including Tess, have made it a fun, interesting place to not only share your thoughts, but read the thoughts of others
Empress Ki/Hwatu/기황후 started last week after MBC’s previous sageuk drama (and sadly snooze-fest) “Goddess of Fire Jung Yi”. I consider this a one-off recap for now since Empress Ki will be 50 episodes long and I don’t know if I can hold out that long… Sageuks in general tend to lose me after the first 16 episodes
MBC‘s upcoming drama “Empress Ki” is vamping up its promotions with new releases of posters and stills.
Two solo posters of Ha Ji Won and and one poster of the three leads have been revealed.
Ha Ji Won’s solo posters show her icy and elegant charisma in her colorful traditional attire. Reports say that she had a lot of trouble with her flowing robes of traditional wear but she pulled through like the professional that she is, earning her high praise from the staff.
The poster with the three leads, Ha Ji Won, Ji Chang Wook and Joo Jin Mo, continue to show the flashy and colorful fashion of the Goryeo period as it predicts an intense love triangle among the characters.
Finally, stills of Ha Ji Won and Joo Jin Mo on a lovely moonlight date were revealed

Unlike the other programs, KBS’ Wonderful Days was the only broadcast to air regularly on Saturday and Sunday.
Despite that fact, Wonderful Days did not see a rise in ratings. Instead, it experienced a decrease. The reason is not certain, but it could be that viewers were not aware that the drama was airing in the midst of all the broadcast cancellations, or they were more focused on waiting for updates in the ongoing SEWOL tragedy.
As of April 21, Monday night variety shows are canceled, with dramas, such as SBS’ God’s Gift – 14 Days and MBC’s Empress Ki on standby, depending on how the situation continues.
Holding onto both smiles and tears, KBS’ Prime Minster and I came to an end on Tuesday night.
The drama jumped from 4.9 to 6.1 percent with its final episode, but still remained in third place in the Monday-Tuesday drama competition. The drama was not able to break 10 percent in its run, especially with a strong competitor like MBC’s Empress Ki.
However, without last minute twists. Prime Minister and I wrapped up with warmth and sweetness in the air with its family-related plotline about the contracted marriage between a prime minister and a scandal reporter.
The Full Sun will pick up after Prime Minister and I on February 10.
With just one episode remaining, KBS′ Prime Minister and I hit its all-time low.
On Monday night, Prime Minister and I dropped to 4.9 percent, its lowest ratings ever since the drama began in December of 2013.
The episode also proved to be important as a big decision was made by Nam Da Jung (Yoona) in terms of her marriage with Kwon Yul (Lee Bum Soo), especially with the return of his wife, who was thought to be dead.
Meanwhile, MBC′s Empress Ki stayed in the 20 percent range with 23.9. SBS′ A Warm Word recorded 9.9.

Last year, we had Chil Bong (Yoo Yeon Seok) and Young Do (Kim Woo Bin) scoring points with the ladies. Both were second leads in highly popular dramas, “Reply 1994” and “The Heirs” respectively.
Their potential successors? None other than Park Hae Jin from SBS drama “Man from the Stars” and Ji Chang Wook from MBC sageuk “Empress Ki.” Both dramas are doing very well in ratings, and while there are some big names attached to both dramas, let’s not forget that these two second leads have also seen their popularity soar.
Park Hae Jin plays Hwi Kyung in “Man from the Stars,” while Ji Chang Wook plays Yuan Emperor Ta Hwan in “Empress Ki,” and while both enjoy privileged statuses as chaebol and emperor respectively, they’re in second place when it comes to love
