THE PREMISE

To get a fuller intro into the show, you can catch our recaps for Episode 1 and Episode 2, but I’ll give an abbreviated setup anyway:

Our hero is Park Sun-woo (Lee Jin-wook), a successful news anchor who sees every scenario through a no-nonsense, facts-first lens. He has an older brother who’s a wandering lost soul, as weak-willed as Sun-woo is strong; his ailing mother lives in a nursing home with dementia; and his father, a hospital director, was killed twenty years ago in a fire.

Lee Sun Kyun plays “queen maker” Kim Hyung Joon, the man who will transform elevator girl Oh Ji Young (Lee Yeon Hee) into Miss Korea in order to save his failing company.

In still cuts released on December 3 of a filming session at a high school in Seoul, Lee Sun Kyun presents a different side to his usual charismatic look. Having never worn a school uniform since his debut as an actor, it was said that Lee Sun Kyun could not look at himself in the mirror.

Upcoming MBC Drama “Miss Korea” Teases with Stunning Poster Photo

The first poster photo for MBC’s latest drama “Miss Korea” has been revealed!

The captivating shot was shared by the drama’s representatives on December 10, a few days after releasing the first video teaser. In the photo, you can see the main character Oh Ji Young (Lee Yeon Hee) posing confidently while being surrounded by her quite interesting styling team. Kim Hyung Joon (Lee Sun Kyun) is holding a large painting brush with a palette in his other hand and seems to be polishing the nails of Oh Ji Young, while Mr. Jung (Lee Sung Min) is polishing the beauty queen’s shoes with a very unconventional tool that looks like a welding machine. Sitting on the table is Go Hwa Jung (Song Seon Mi), who is carefully observing the process with a slight smile on her face. Overall, the paint cans and piles of cords make the set a quite unusual one, making us wonder what sort of means the team will use to make Oh Ji Young’s beauty shine.

Wednesday and Thursday nights will be a battle field for dramas. Actor Lee Sun Kyun commented about his drama, “Miss Korea,” battling it out with Kim Soo Hyun‘s “Man from the Stars.”

On December 16, MBC’s “Miss Korea” held a press conference before the drama’s first broadcast. In regards to the drama’s timeslot, Lee Sun Kyun expressed, “It would be a lie if I said that I didn’t care about the other drama. It has distinguished actors, it’s on the same day, and it’s on the same time, so I am worried. Honestly. Our drama has its own merit. I believe our drama is up for the competition. Our actors have really good chemistry, and combined with our team work, we will excel.”

Actress Lee Yeon Hee grasps the 90s style through her new look for the upcoming MBC drama “Miss Korea.”

On December 16, the drama released images of the actress being approached by Lee Sun Kyun’s character. The photo reveals the actress sporting hair, makeup, and clothes of the 90s; despite the outdated style, the actress pulls off the old look through her beauty.

“Miss Korea” follows the story of a makeup company’s efforts to save the company during the struggles of the IMF by trying to make a high school beauty queen in to a Miss Korea. The drama stills portray Lee Sun Kyun’s character approaching Lee Yeon Hee’s character, in efforts to try and recruit the beauty to become a Miss Korea.

“Empress Ki” – Episode 19 – 20 Recap by Couch-Kimchi:

I was going insane for new episodes of Empress Ki (and waiting for subs) to the point that I started to forget what this drama was about. (LOL) The award shows were nice, it was fun seeing our cast sitting together, laughing and talking. And it was really nice to see them win! But I wanted to get back to the show, I was up very early to catch both episodes live. Let’s talk about what happened!

“Melody Of Love” – Mid-Series Review

“Melody Of Love” – Mid-Series Review

Daily dramas are tricky. They’re usually 100 plus episodes, so many characters you need a flow-chart and are often based on family dynamics. The plus’s are they’re usually only 30 minutes long, which is very easy to fit into my evenings. Since I fast-forward through any parts of the story I’m not interested in – that leaves me with maybe 15 actual minutes of hard-core drama. *kekeke*

Melody of Love, airing on KBS caught my eye because of two of the actors. Baek Sung-hyun, who I remembered from “White Christmas” and “Queen Insoo” and Kim Hye-Ok, who always (and I mean always) plays the screechy, screaming (literally) horrible Mom. I decided to check it out and snoozed my way through the early episodes. Until around episode 30 when it hit me what this drama was about: Two sisters in love with the same man. Ahahaha. I’m in.

'The Night Watchmen' Heads Directly For First Place

'The Night Watchmen' Heads Directly For First Place

Whether it was the magical plot or the presence of Jung Il Woo, “The Night Watchmen” reached first place in the ratings on its very first night.

According to Nielsen Korea, the drama rated 10.9 percent. That”s 2 percent more than the drama it replaced, which was “Triangle.” It is also higher than the final episode of “Triangle.”

Jung Il Woo, last seen in “The Golden Rainbow,” plays Prince Lee Rin in this fantasy fusion drama. The prince sees ghosts and uses that power to join the watchmen who protect the palace from prowling spirits. Playing his swordsman sidekick is TVXQ”s Yunho, last seen in “Queen of Ambition.” Actress Go Sung Hee, who was last seen in “Miss Korea,” also stars in this drama, as does actress Seo Yae Ji, who appeared in “Potato Star.”

K-Drama Actresses Who Ruled As Queens

K-Drama Actresses Who Ruled As Queens

Which k-drama actresses have ruled while playing queens? Quite a few have worn the crown. The most recent actress to sit on the throne is Park Shin Hye who plays a fashion conscious queen in the film “The Tailors.” Her love of fashion sets off some serious political rivalries in the court.

It”s only fitting that Park Shin Hye gets to play a queen as she already played a princess in the drama “Princess Hours.” In that role she went from silly schoolgirl to graceful monarch, excelling at many of her royal duties and winning the love of her people.

Laughter never ends on the filming set of “Maids”.

JTBC revealed behind-the-scene stills of “Maids”, which is the third Joseon historical drama following after “Queen Insoo” and “Cruel Palace – War of Flowers“.

Pictures show Oh Ji-ho, Jeong Yoo-mi, Kim Dong-wuk, Lee Si-ah, Lee I-kyeong, Jeon So-min and others who will be leading the story. They are all laughing merrily.

Remembering 'Boys Over Flowers': The Best K-Drama Cliché

(Photo : KBS)

Let”s take a moment to imagine this scenario.

You”re a broke high school student with four millionaire best friends. The first is a musical prodigy, the second is a mob boss”s son, the third is a renowned artist, and the last is a spoiled-rotten brat set to inherit one of the country”s biggest conglomerates. Yes, please!

There are so many wonderful clichés in KBS”s Boys Over Flowers, the 2009 K-drama starring Goo Hye Sun, Lee Min Ho, Kim Hyun Joong, Kim Bum and Kim Joon that became a global phenomenon.
