Recap for SBS Drama Pinocchio Episode 4

By in News posted Oct November 21st, 2014 No comments

Okay, I seriously love this episode. I swear it’s not even because our hero finally gets a makeover (even though that’s worth a round of applause in and of itself—fare thee well, Mop of Shame!), but because the family stuff hits all the right chords. It’s an episode about fathers, and the kind of love that’s so steadfast that sometimes a reminder is a shock to the system—a poignant, tear-filled, affectionate shock.by DramabeansTiger J.K – “첫사랑” (First Love) for the Pinocchio OST

EPISODE 4: “Romeo and Juliet” We rewind a little to see that Dad finds the kids on the rooftop and hides out of sight, just in time to watch Dal-po try to stop In-ha’s day-long bout of hiccups, over having to lie that things went great with Mom and she’s totally fine giving up on journalism altogether

This is a really dense episode, packed with character revelations and plot twists that are actually revelatory and truthfully twisty, and even though it calls for every ounce of attention you can dedicate to it, it doesn’t fail to reward you for time well spent. So much happens this hour that it’s near impossible to sum it all up here, suffice to say that the time to reunite our dearest and most craziest of villains with his missing marbles has come and gone, along with any shot he might’ve had at redemption. He’s positivelyunhinged now, as opposed to just being functionally certifiable before. Don’t think there’s a difference? Wait and see.by DramabeansFaced with a possible traitor amongst them, Woo-jin turns to Dal-goo to ask why he did it, before revealing that he never thought Do-young was psychic and suspected he had an accomplice from the beginning

by Dramabean:

Agh, they’re so cuuuuute. Now that our backstory is in place, the second episode actually brings our leads together onscreen, and I’m happy to say that their dynamic is adorable—their bickering relationship is funny and heartfelt, and I really like both characters. It was impossible to tell from the first episode alone if the show would reel me in, but by the end of this hour, they’ve got me. Last-place student Dal-po wins his first round of the TV quiz show, wiping the smirk off of the first-place champion and surprising everyone in their class. As the audience claps and the cameras turn to him, he narrates in voiceover that after suffering those cruel events with his family, he vowed to never set foot in a broadcast station or exchange words with anyone even remotely associated with a network

by Couch-kimchi:A few details were revealed, we learned more about Yeol-Moo past. We also met her Mom, who is most likely crazy from grief and we learned the reason Yeol-Moo dropped Dong Chi but we’ll need more to understand why she thinks he’s a murderer. Ratings for this drama are strong, beating outSecret Door and Tomorrow’s Cantabile to remain #1 in its time slot. I’m gonna make a wild guess that part of it is due to the power of Baek Jin Hee again. Those of you who watched Empress Ki with me will remember the Korean audience being very vocal in their adoration of this actress, to the point that the script was changed to extend her part. I’m sure Choi Jin Hyuk is loved as well but the very tiny Baek Jin Hee has become a mighty draw on TV when she’s paired with a great script. All those pieces are falling into place with this drama, at least for now

Crafty K-Drama Heroines Get Creative

By in News posted Oct September 22nd, 2014 No comments

Not all k-drama heroines work three part-time jobs delivering fried chicken until there"s a chaebol who marries them and rescues them from a life of drudgery. Lately more k-drama heroines have been portrayed as having real jobs where they are at least sometimes respected and earn a living wage.

A few also work in the arts or at crafts, making a living with what they can create.

A good example is Jung Yu Mi"s character in "Discovery of Love." Her character, woodworker Han Yeo Reum, does not just whittle away at sticks but designs furniture for architectural firms. And despite her slender frame, she is not shy about using saws or other sharp-edged power equipment to craft the perfect piece of furniture.

Like Han Yeo Reum, Son Ye Jin"s character in "Personal Taste" was also often covered in sawdust and wore work goggles

“Man from the Stars” Episode 1 Recap by drama beansWe begin in 1609, the first year of Gwanghae’s reign during the Joseon era. It’s on August 25 that a mysterious “round, shining flying object” was sighted and logged in the official records; it zoomed overhead with “a thunderous noise” before disappearing into sparks, leaving the skies clear and cloudless.(This is a real part of historical record, and served as the basis for tvN’s sci-fi-mystery drama Joseon X-Files, which I recommend by the way.)A procession makes its way along a mountain road, carrying a young girl who was widowed just as soon as she was married. Suddenly, the UFO appears directly above them, kicking up such a fierce wind that the travelers go flying. The young widow is buffeted about in her sedan chair, which eventually gets caught up in the tornado and skids along the ground, teetering at the edge of a cliff

Kdrama Answer Me 1994 Episode 10 Recap by DramaBeans “It might be the last”

It’s 2013, and we’re still watching the neverending wedding video. This time we get as far as the daddy-daughter walk down the aisle, at the end of which Dad has this hilarious kneejerk moment, refusing to hand Na-jung over to the bridegroom(’s stand-in). That’s cute.

Thirty-nine-year-old Na-jung sends her hubby a sly wink across the room, and of course each of our bachelor candidates reacts to it. Is anybody else tired of this one-trick pony joke?

1994. Dad’s baseball team wins the Korean Series, after which he prepares celebratory liquor to drink on their next victory. To which Mom asks, “Who knows when you’ll win again?” LOL

Kdrama "Answer Me 1994" Episode 7 Recap by DramaBeans

It’s a sweltering summer in 1994, and Na-jung has a new part-time job working the counter at a chicken and burger joint near campus. She’s surprisingly sharp and good with numbers, as she tells her customer the exact price difference between ordering his burgers and colas separately instead of as sets.

Someone pages her, and it turns out to be Chilbongie calling from baseball practice. He comes up with the adorably lame excuse that he felt like eating burgers, and wants to know if her store delivers.

She says he’d have to order something like twenty of them, and he happily orders fifty. Ermagerd, he’s so cute I can’t stand it.

So Na-jung and her co-worker (the computer science sunbae) head over to the field that night with fifty burgers in tow

Basketball EPISODE 5 RECAP By Dramabeans

Everyone’s in shock after Shin-young and Chi-ho’s wedding announcement, but no one more than San, who decides to go against his arrogant coach’s wishes and play the game with all he’s got.

Daddy Choi leaves feeling quite proud of himself, confident that the first score won in the game was won by Chi-ho. It’s Secretary Kim who breaks the news that it was someone from their team, causing Daddy Choi to start making his way back toward the court out of curiosity. Who could be giving the great Min Chi-ho a run for his money?

It’s none other than San, whom we see racing across the court with his teammates, sinking basket after basket. Bong-soon is adorably supportive as she gives the awed crowd San’s name so they can cheer for him: “Kang San! Min Chi-ho’s newest rival!”

The game gets fierce, and I mean fierce, when Chi-ho gets his head back into the game to take San head on

‘God’s Gift’ Plays Out Like a Realistic Movie with Ratings Increase

By in News posted Oct March 5th, 2014 No comments

With its second episode, SBS’ God’s Gift – 14 Days set down its plotline, piercing fear and thrill into the viewers.

The first two episodes introduced the characters, before immediately jumping into kidnapping and murder of the drama’s youngest character. Viewers have been praising the high quality story, as well as the acting of Lee Bo Young, who perfectly portrayed a mother who is willing to do anything to save her child.

The episodes also brought up many social issues that have been taking place in Korea, sending fear at the possibility that what’s happening in the drama could easily happen in real life.

Although the drama received a ratings increase, so did MBC’s Empress Ki, who kept its overwhelming record at first.

Heartache Takes Center Stage in “Man from the Stars”

By in News posted Oct January 24th, 2014 No comments

These episodes are jam-packed with heart wrenching emotion. The future doesn’t look too bright, especially with Min Joon’s departure looming ever closer. His desire to push Song Yi away grows, but so does his hopeless dream of a happy and normal life with heri at his side. For better or for worse, I’ve become heavily invested in the well-being of these characters. Seeing both Song Yi and Min Joon struggle through their heartache has left me emotionally drained and dejected. Keep in mind these feelings are a testament to just how great this show is.

Why is My Heart Breaking?

Min Joon Rejects Song Yi’s Confession

Min Joon’s run in with the psychopath Jae Kyung’s poisoned needle reminded him just how strong his feelings for Song Yi have grown. He’s convinced he must do all that he can to end his connection before it’s too late to recover
