By in News posted Oct November 10th, 2013 No comments

Korea seems to have caught the “Re-4 disease” as cable channel tvN’s Friday-Saturday drama “Reply 1994” recorded its highest rating of 7.3% since it started airing four weeks ago.

The seventh episode, “That Summer,” was aired on November 7 and was warmly received, earning itself a 6.2% rating. The peak viewership reached 7.3% and was number one in cable, satellite and IPTV viewership during the same period.

The show seems to be bent on breaking its own records, with the sixth episode garnering an average rating of 5.8% (peak 6.9%). It is predicted that “Reply 1994” will break its predecessor “Reply 1997”’s record average viewership of 7.6% and peak viewership of 9.5%. Viewership is evenly spread amongst all genders and age groups, ranging from 10s-50s. Combined with its number one ranking in its time slot, it just might qualify as the next “national drama

It is that time of the year again when Korean high school seniors are facing suneung, also titled the Korean Scholastic Ability Test (SAT).

This year, the exam will take place on November 7 and all of Korea can be expected to slow down from 8:40AM until 6:30PM, when the students will be solving questions on subjects such as Korean, English, Mathematics, Science, and Foreign language. Preparing for the test starts as early as in kindergarten, and whether you succeed or fail can determine your whole future. Suneung is widely known as one of the most rigorous high school exams in the world.

To cheer on those that are currently studying harder than ever, many idol groups have sent encouraging video messages to the high school third-graders. Take a look at them below!

“Running Man” Race Start Fan Meeting in Singapore Was More than Just Another Fan Meeting

By in News posted Oct October 22nd, 2013 No comments

It was a mad party at the “Watsons Race Start! in Singapore Running Man Fan Meeting” last Saturday! Held on October 19 at Singapore Expo, all tickets to the event were snapped up within hours after tickets went on public sale. It was the five members, namely Ji Suk Jin, Kim Jong Kook, Song Ji Hyo, Kang Gary, and Haha‘s first time coming to Singapore as part of the”Running Man” cast. It was also Song Ji Hyo’s first appearance at the Asia Tour, bringing much excitement to shippers of the Monday Couple.

Kudos to whoever came up with the idea to dress them as “Boys Over Flowers” leading characters and have them do a T-max cover — “Almost Paradise,” the OST of the Korean remake of “Hana Yori Dango

F.T. Island and SECRET to swap songs for M Countdown Smile Thailand Concert

By in News posted Oct September 27th, 2012 No comments

With only a week away until Mnet’s ‘One Asia Tour 2012 M! Countdown Smile Thailand‘ concert, two of Korea’s hottest K-pop idol groups will be swapping songs.

SECRET will be putting on a sexy rendition of F.T. Island’s “I Wish“, while F.T. Island will perform a powerful cover of “Poison“.

Fans are highly anticipating the song swap, as the words ‘sexy’ and ‘sultry’ don’t come into mind when thinking about F.T. Island. The boys will instead sing a rock version of “Poison“, and own the song.

“I Wish“, which snagged the no.1 spot on ‘M! Countdown‘ last week, will be remade to fit SECRET ’s vocals.

The members of SECRET stated, “We’re going to perform a more feminine, sweeter version of ‘I Wish’ for Thai fans

allkpop [TV Program Guide] [Variety Edition]: [Op-Ed] Leessangs departure from variety: the problem with jumping to conclusions

By in News posted Oct September 27th, 2012 No comments

I don’t usually discuss serious topics on the allkpop TV Guide. But this past week, something really big happened, something worth talking about – and it, sadly, didn’t need to happen at all.

I am, of course, talking about the hip-hop duo Leessang‘s announcement that they would be ending all of their stints on variety programs, with Gil on ‘Infinity Challenge‘ and Gary on ‘Running Man’. This is a reaction to the massive backlash they have received over a concert (‘Super 7‘), featuring the ‘Infinity Challenge’ members, that was produced by Leessang Company.

First of all, here’s a quick overview of everything that went down:

Leessang Company (a separate entity from the hip-hop duo, albeit managed by them) announced a ‘Super 7′ concert a few months ago featuring the Infinity Challenge members, meant as a project for their loyal fans who had waited for them throughout the entire MBC strike
