The top 5 K-drama Villains We Love To Hate

By in posted Oct Comments off

Wrapping up You Are All Surrounded and reflecting on the perfidy of Assemblyman Yoo, I realize I have become completely spoiled. I am used to my K-drama villains so ruthless, evil and crazy, that a man with a 20 year slow climb to power got a “meh, I guess he’s bad.” K-dramas have a wide variety of villains and some you love to hate. Sometimes you just need to stand up and cheer when these Baddies get their due. Here are five villains we love to hate:

5) Lee Hye Young as Jun Pyo’s mom in Boys Over Flowers.

Face it: you all hate her almost as much as you love Pretty Lee Min Ho. Jun Pyo eventually won us over, getting over his jerky, entitled self in the wake of Jan Di’s awesomeness. His mom? Well, Jun Pyo got his tendency to run roughshod over everyone and strut around like the Lord of Creation from somewhere

But what has happened between the three characters? Is Joo Jang Mi finally getting married? The anticipation is building up for the next episode, which will reveal the story behind the teaser photos

The Fairy and the Woodcutter: tragic love, Korean-syle

By in posted Oct Comments off

The Fairy and the Woodcutter is one of the most popular of all Korean folktales. Almost all children in Korea grow up reading a version of this love story. The story has three well-known versions that differ mainly in plot length. The following is a synopsis of the full version of the folktale. There once was a poor woodcutter who lived with his mother. One day, he helped a wounded deer escape from hunters. As a show of gratitude, the deer informed the woodcutter of a nearby pond where fairies came down from the heavens to bathe every month. The deer pointed out that the woodcutter would be able to marry one of the fairies by hiding the fairy"s winged clothing-her only means of flight. He could then come to the rescue of the stranded fairy. The only proviso: everything was to be kept secret from his wife until they had at least three children

[Drama Review] "High School: Love On" - Episode 1

By in posted Oct Comments off
HIGH SCHOOL: LOVE ON EPISODE 1
An angel decides to save a teen"s life and ends up mortal in this comedy-drama.

The angel, who adopts the name Lee Seul Bi thanks to an amalgam of magazines that she spots, has the thankless task of guiding the spirits of the recently deceased. When she turns mortal (presumably by saving the student), she acts very much like someone unfamiliar with humanity or even with a corporeal form: She doesn"t have a name or address. She doesn"t know about eating. She speaks to everyone in banmal (informal speech). She doesn"t know what it is to be ill. She expresses wonder when being rained on. And she experiences dejection for the first time. She also enjoys K-dramas :D

The boy she saves is Shin Woo Hyun. Woo Hyun is adopted by this angel-turned-mortal and she follows him everywhere

[KDrama.com Spotlight] "It"s Okay, That"s Love" First Impressions

By in posted Oct Comments off

When SBS revealed the theme of the follow-up drama to "You"re Surrounded", I"ll admit that I was skeptical. A romantic comedy centering around psychiatric patients? Could this type of drama be done in a tasteful way?

Well, add a superstar cast - Kong Hyo-jin, Jo In-Seong, Lee Gwang-soo, Seong Dong-il - and a well-written script and it seems like this show might be a smash hit for SBS. The director himself said that the drama"s underlying message would be one of tolerance and breaking social prejudice and so far he is living up to his promise.

All of the characters are written in a way that does not define them by whatever psychological diagnosis they may have received. Sure, Lee Gwang-soo"s character (confusingly named Soo Kwang) has Tourette Syndrome but it has not defined his character at all - instead, his fit of ticks is viewed as something that happens from time to time and no reason to worry or ostracize him
