By: Dramabeans Fighting nerves, Nae-il stumbles onto the stage and sits at the piano for her first-round performance. Looking to Yoo-jin out in the audience calms her, and he thinks encouraging thoughts her way as she begins her competition piece. She’s off to a good start, and Yoo-jin relaxes while the judges start nodding approvingly, noting that she’s the best so far. Teacher Do is pleased, too, recognizing that Nae-il is adding her own feeling into the performance: “Good,” he thinks. “Play just like that.”Also watching is Teacher Yoon from the master class, who remains stony-faced through it all. Yoon-hoo, on the other hand, doesn’t look worried as he joins her in the audience. Nae-il plays strongly through the end, and more than anything I love that she looks thrilled with herself. Teacher Do bursts into applause, and Yoo-jin joins in, thinking, “Good job, Seol Nae-il

Noona Says: The DILFs of “Dad! Where Are We Going?”

By in News posted Oct November 15th, 2014 No comments

As in, “Dad I Like to (be)Friend,” of course. I know, that one is bad, but I couldn’t think of another appropriate “F” verb. Maybe I should change it to DILHF (“Dad I Like to High Five”). Let’s go on with everyone knowing that I don’t mean that term literally, but as a name for attractive fathers.

I just started watching “Dad! Where Are We Going?” now that it’s on SoompiTV, and I have fallen in love with this show. I know people watch it for the kids, and the kids are cute. Very cute. They do cute kid things and I do laugh at the funny things they say, but if I’m being honest, I’m watching it for the dads.

Not in a weird, lusty way or anything, just to be clear. I find it really heartwarming to see some of my favorite male celebrities being good fathers

by Dramabean:

Agh, they’re so cuuuuute. Now that our backstory is in place, the second episode actually brings our leads together onscreen, and I’m happy to say that their dynamic is adorable—their bickering relationship is funny and heartfelt, and I really like both characters. It was impossible to tell from the first episode alone if the show would reel me in, but by the end of this hour, they’ve got me. Last-place student Dal-po wins his first round of the TV quiz show, wiping the smirk off of the first-place champion and surprising everyone in their class. As the audience claps and the cameras turn to him, he narrates in voiceover that after suffering those cruel events with his family, he vowed to never set foot in a broadcast station or exchange words with anyone even remotely associated with a network

by DramabeansTo nobody’s shock but Sun’s, Kim Taek and his Noron cronies have backstabbed him under the guise of helping. The prized ginseng that’s meant to grease the wheels of diplomacy with the Qing envoys turns out to be a putrid, maggot-infested mess—which, naturally, does not go over well.We see in flashback that Chul-joo had thought up this scheme, to prepare ginseng that appeared fine one day and then quickly rotted. Wouldn’t it have been easier to show the prince one good box of ginseng, and then just prepare the others with rotting merchandise? Bah, I can’t believe I care about the logic of the most boring plot twist ever. Moreover, I can’t believe we’re in a drama about the tragic life of Sado and we’re spending time on ginseng storylines, but whatever. The Qing envoys are so insulted that they declare the negotiations off, intending to leave Joseon at once

Recap: “Old Goodbye,” MBC’s Drama Festival Special

By in News posted Oct November 12th, 2014 No comments

I was one of the many who immediately jumped on the “Old Goodbye” bandwagon when news first broke out that it was due to air this November. Not only was the time travel, fantasy plot interesting, but this drama special is, quite possibly, the only chance we’d ever get to see a true “Fated to Love You” reunion. The staff of “Old Goodbye” involves not only Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara, but also Im Hyung Joon, who portrayed half of the Hamo-Hamo duo, Mr. Choi, and Kim Hee Won, the director for “Fated to Love You.”

As such a big fan of the drama, “Old Goodbye” was a gift. The anxiety of waiting for November 10 to roll around gave way to excitement when I was finally able to push that play button

by Dramabeans: Yeongjo gives Sun a chance to be reinstated as prince-regent—all he has to do is meet the Qing envoys who are on their way and ready to declare war (over a naval skirmish with a Joseon fishing boat), and stop a war from happening. Oh, is that all?He makes it clear that taking on the task is a double-edged sword because if Sun succeeds, he does get to be regent again, but if he fails, he will forever be stripped of his rights to the regency. That means he’ll never practice politics ever again. Yeongjo makes sure to add that he won’t be lenient on him just because he’s his only son. I’m pretty sure no one here thought you would. But his point stings nonetheless—he’s happy to find a successor elsewhere. The extreme terms of the deal don’t dissuade Sun, and he agrees to take on the challenge to convince the Qing envoys without caving to their demands

by Dramabeans:Nae-il comes to Yoo-jin for comfort after running out on her lesson, where she was told Teacher Do would be her new instructor. She calms at the touch of his hand, but the effect is short-lived because Yoo-jin tells her that she needs a stern teacher to help her grow as a musician, and that she shouldn’t waste her talent. He takes a call from Teacher Do and says he’ll bring Nae-il in to her lesson, and, feeling betrayed, she withdraws her hand from his grasp.Nae-il cries that he’s just like everyone else for forcing her when that leads to tears and pain, but Yoo-jin replies that if everyone’s saying the same thing, then she’s the one who’s wrong. He’s not mean about it, but ouch, that seems a little tone-deaf to Nae-il’s stricken reaction. She sobs, “Not being able to do as I want—you don’t know what that’s like

Review episode 12 and 13 of “Greatest marriage”

By in News posted Oct November 5th, 2014 No comments
In this episode, I felt quite unsatisfied until I found out that the director's intention is ending the relationship between Tae-Yeon and Gi-Young. Myung- Yion maybe appeared so much on screen. I thought that Gi-Young appeared less than Myung-Yion. I hope that their appearnce on screen is equal. After Gi-Young comes back to the number one spot, she starts reading the out of date news. Their news room gets panic. Her action is always complained by her colleague. She is always doing what she wants. Outside, the women’s group cheers that Gi-Young is back while downstairs, the team is happy the boycott has ended. They watch the ratings, which jump up above 15% and celebrate, like they had anything to do with it. Pffttt, bunch of jerks. Even more hilarious, as soon as Eun Cha starts reading the news, the ratings nosedive below 5%

by Dramabeans: Yoo-jin bristles to see the new guy, Yoon-hoo, paying attention to Nae-il, which brings out his inner caveman as he pulls her to himself. Yoon-hoo explains that he’s auditing classes here while on break from Juilliard, and watches Yoo-jin’s display of jealousy with amusement. The scoring for this moment is particularly apropos, with Prokofiev’s famous Montagues-versus-Capulets piece marking the tension, all bombast and machismo. Although let’s be honest here; it’s mostly a one-sided thing, even if Yoo-jin won’t admit it.Nae-il marvels that this is the first time Yoo-jin has hugged her, which puts Yoo-jin in the awkward position of protesting that it totally wasn’t a hug while not wanting to back away entirely—since, you know, he was proving a point to New Guy. But New Guy has his number, sizing up the situation accurately—he guesses that they’re not dating, though he recognizes that things just got harder for himself (and his interest in Nae-il)

The dashing hero reaches out and holds the hands of his beloved. A gentle wind blows. Our captivating heroine with perfect makeup shyly looks up at the charming lead, who has risked life and limb to defeat all sorts of demons to reach this exact moment. Somehow cherry blossoms are falling around them like a flurry of snowflakes, even though there isn’t a cherry blossom tree in sight. The charming couple locks eyes, they move in for the grand finale: the kiss. They inch closer. And we all swoon when the much anticipated lip lock happens as an upbeat OST track plays in the background, signaling the end of a 20-episode run. We feel good. We are content, satisfied that that couple we had been cheering on for weeks has achieved their happily-ever-happy ending. Right? A recent trend in K-dramas explores the other side of the grand finale and the big kiss

Little to No Love for Spica.S’s “Give Your Love” Written by Camiele On September 17, 2014

It seems the latter part of 2014 begins the season of office fantasies. Sunny Hill returned with their ode to the work week romance, “Monday Blues,” and now we’ve got Spica.S, the “sexy side” of the powerhouse vocal group SPICA, giving us much face and fashion with their latest MV, “Give Your Love.”

Spica.S (meaning “Spica Special”) is the first foray into subunit territory for the vocal group. However, instead of being a specialty group consisting of only a few of the members, Spica.S seems to be a means for the girls to express their more daring, sensual sides. The only member who opted out, so to say, was Kim Bo Ah, who has taken the time to concentrate on a solo project
